Nitro Coupe – A supercharged Pro
Mod on nitro. Prior to the introduction of the class, a Pro Modified car was allowed
to run either a supercharger or nitrous injection, but not both. Powering these
popular cars are Hemi-head configured 526 cubic inch engines running an alcohol/nitro-methane
fuel mix, production reaches 2500-3000 horsepower. Most cars use a two or three-disc
clutch sandwiched between the engine and a three-speed air-shifted Lenco transmission.
Nitro Coupes are a professional racing category exclusive to the AutoZone Super
Chevy Show Tour, presented at 19 locations across the US and Canada. With ¼
mile passes in the low 6 second range and speeds approaching 230 Mph these cars
are a refreshing combination of nostalgia , power and attitude.
